Someone calls and sounds like your child, partner or parent. They are in trouble. They need money now, and they ask you not to tell anyone else. The FTC says scammers use exactly this story, and that a short clip from a video or voicemail can be enough to clone a voice.
You do not have to decide while they are still on the line. The safest first move is to end the call.
