Reuse it, translate it, put your name next to ours

Every module in the Open Library is published under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0). You may copy it, adapt it and translate it, for any purpose, without asking. The one condition is that you say where it came from. This page gives you the words to do that.

The licence

CC BY 4.0, and deliberately not NoDerivatives.

A NoDerivatives licence would forbid translation, and a library meant for families, newcomers and small organisations in more than one language cannot be built on that. So the content licence permits derivatives. The platform code is separate: it is AGPL-3.0, which covers software, not lessons.

The attribution line

Title, author, source, licence.

Creative Commons recommends those four things, and that is all these say. Use the plain text in a slide footer or a video description; use the HTML or Markdown where links can be live. For a single module, replace the library name with the module title and link to its page.

Plain text
Training content from the Hackiwi Open Library (https://hackiwi.com/library), by Hackiwi, licensed under CC BY 4.0 (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/).

The badge

Powered by Hackiwi, at a path that will not move.

Optional, for partners and reusers who want a visible mark. It is a single SVG served from this site, so link to it directly rather than copying the file: the path is stable and a redesign reaches every badge at once.

You do not need to

  • Ask permission, or tell us, before reusing anything.
  • Pay a fee, create an account or accept any terms beyond the licence.
  • Keep the Hackiwi name on your own additions - credit what you took, not what you wrote.
  • Use the badge. The attribution line on its own satisfies the licence.

Please do

  • Say if you changed the material, as the licence asks.
  • Link to the module page rather than mirroring the video, so corrections reach your audience too.
  • Tell us if you use it with a community - the partner directory exists for exactly that.
